Transform Your 2021 through Dance

Transformation is the theme as Artis Community Cymuned launch a new term of dance classes to start week commencing 22 February…

Here at Artis we’re determined to attack 2021 with positivity and creativity. It has been a difficult start to the year and while we’re not yet in a position to offer our classes in person, we’d like to invite people to join us for our online dance classes where the theme is transformation.

At the end of this year we will be moving into our new home at the newly refurbished YMCA building in Pontypridd. We’re delighted to say that the multi-million-pound development will have a dance studio, studio theatre and a newly designed Shelley Hall – all tailor-made for our classes and performances.

While our classes can only take place online right now, we remain optimistic that before the year is out, we will be able to meet in person, in our state-of-the-art new building offering classes in dance and many other artforms for people of all ages and abilities. To say we can’t wait to welcome you to our new home is an understatement!

In the meantime, the journey starts with these online classes in dance starting on Monday 22nd of February. Our first class will be Evolve Dance. Tutor Liam Williams will take the theme of transformation to inspire a class of adults in these expressive dance sessions offering internal, mindful and focused movement through directed improvisation, set dance exercises and creative tasks. All abilities are welcome!

Transformation will also be the inspiration for three dance classes aimed at young people. The first, starting on Tuesday 23rd of February, is called IncluDance. This inclusive dance session for disabled and non-disabled participants aged 11 to 25 teaches technique and improvisation in a fun, joyful and supportive environment. We believe passionately that dance is for everyone and this is the perfect introduction to dance for young people wanting to get moving from the comfort of their own homes.

On Wednesdays we will host two classes for 8 to 10 year-olds and 11+ with tutor Mike Williams. At 4.30pm our Movers Dance class will offer children a chance to learn new skills and enjoy dance in a creative session where the emphasis is on having fun, burning energy and making new friends. Following that session at 5.30pm will be our Youth Dance class for the 11+ age group where the session gives young people a chance to develop their dance skills in a more explorative and choreographed way through improvisation and technique.

All of our sessions are fun and encouraging and offered in a supportive and positive environment, perfect for anyone wanting to get moving in lockdown, to stay connected and make new friends.

Classes can be booked online here and if you have any questions about any of the above please don’t hesitate get in touch with us at – we would love to hear from you!

Come dance with us!
