YMCA Public Art Commission

The redevelopment of the Pontypridd YMCA has reached an exciting phase! Through a collaboration between Pontypridd YMCA, Artis Community, RCT Arts Services and local public art specialists Addo Creative we are delighted to announce that artists Heinrich & Palmer have been selected to develop 2D designs for the glass parapet level façade of the YMCA building in Pontypridd. The public art commission is funded by Arts Council of Wales as part of its contribution to the wider Pontypridd YMCA redevelopment. The finished artwork will be installed ready for the opening of the building in Summer/Autumn 2021 – this does of course depend on the on-going impact of Covid-19 restrictions. All work during this period will be done while following the latest social distancing guidance.

Artists Heinrich and Palmer (Anna & Leon) have been making great progress with their public art design ideas for the glass parapet level facade of the lovely Pontypridd YMCA building!
Facilitated by Artis Community they have been working with participants from ‘Our Place’ parent & toddler group through online zoom workshops. Meanwhile, participants from Artis Community’s Crafty Cuppas have provided valuable input through a postcard project while members of the RCT Writers Circle and local creative people have all inputed into this creative process.
Despite lockdown & not being able to visit Pontypridd town, Anna & Leon are making excellent progress and we can’t wait to reveal their designs!
If you would like to get involved there is still time!
